False Positive
[:[00:00:22] Scott Moran: Does this hold up? And just, what the hell is a good movie? Anyway, I'm Frank Roll. I'm Scott Moran and we are the last video
[:[00:00:35] Scott Moran: is it,
[:[00:00:36] Scott Moran: did you? No. Fuck that shit. Is it cake? I fucking hate that. Is it cake seems like such a waste of resources. Is it cake? No, it's a, it's an air
[:[00:00:57] Scott Moran: Like, I don't know, got approved. It's not cake,
[:[00:01:02] Scott Moran: somebody, he's on S N L. I can't remember that guy's name. That's right. I t like embedded himself in my brain yet.
[:[00:01:12] Scott Moran: of them. Yeah, he's great.
[:[00:01:32] Frank Roll III: Gabriel Byrne.
[:[00:01:37] Scott Moran: good. What's it on MGM Plus? Damnit. It's weird. I think the first, maybe the first season might be free on Amazon. So weird with the teasing and the free first season. But I mean, I got it for those two shows. Basically. I got it for from, mm-hmm. I stayed for War of the World.
[:[00:02:08] Scott Moran: They went to,
[:[00:02:10] Scott Moran: in a rebuilding season. Yeah. It's one of those, you know, a streaming platform comes out and they like, they don't have their shit yet. Like it's all everywhere. Disney is. Still getting things back. They'll be getting it back forever. Yeah. Because who knows what kind of contracts were signed on
[:[00:02:22] Frank Roll III: I saw something recently that blew my mind. I was like, oh shit. They didn't have that. Oh, I wish I could remember. It blew my mind though. I was like, wow,
[:[00:02:39] Scott Moran: Yeah, it's all a fucking lie. Oh. Got a bunch of different kind of candy to sell. Well, some candy, little boy. Oh, you don't like that? Well, we have this over here. It's called a channel motherfuckers original content. But most notably, I watched the Northman. Oh, with the blonde guy. The
[:[00:03:09] Frank Roll III: Was it Big Little Lies? No, that's that, that's that teeny barber show, isn't it? No. Big Little Lies. The HBO one. Reese Witherspoon. Oh,
[:[00:03:22] Frank Roll III: That's it. I got
[:[00:03:32] Scott Moran: Joy Anya. She's also in it. She, Nicole Kidman. Hmm. Uh, Ethan Hawk, the Hawk. Dear Ethan Hawk is a Kate King. He did a good job too. I've also
[:[00:03:44] Scott Moran: watch it. Robert Eggers, the Witch and the Lighthouse. Same director. Okay. Who? The lighthouse. It's long. It's long.
[:[00:04:07] Scott Moran: It was all right. Middle of the road. No, the Northman though, it's, uh, better than most of Ridley Scott's movies lately. You're like, yeah, because it felt like a Ridley Scott movie. You know? It felt like something Ridley Scott would make, but a little more fucked up.
[:[00:04:26] Frank Roll III: I just have to do it. It's
[:[00:04:50] Scott Moran: You think? I don't know. It's, uh, is it over three? It's a, a Robert Egger movie. It's really. Slow burn, but a lot happens at the same time. And the shit, when it hits, it's hard. It hits hard. It's fucking brutal. Dude,
[:[00:05:08] Scott Moran: fucked. You bring up Dominique Swain more than anything. No one fucking knows who that is.
[:[00:05:39] Frank Roll III: Um, you watch anything else, any new shows?
[:[00:05:56] Scott Moran: Ted Danon. Ted Danon. And I'm only dancing.
[:[00:06:11] Scott Moran: that the second time you've watched that? Like the Kingdom?
[:[00:06:16] Scott Moran: not, you know, it's just one of the, I, I don't know where's, it's not one I would re-watch.
[:[00:06:27] Frank Roll III: But, okay. Well, so viewers might also watch Jarhead popped up and I was like, it's
[:[00:06:36] Frank Roll III: has been busy. It picked up.
[:[00:06:43] Scott Moran: You have all these statutes of limitation on when I, you can enjoy things. Like I said, there's a
[:[00:06:52] Scott Moran: No. Do you get completely naked when you jerk off? Well, no. No. That this is an apt metaphor. Don't shake
[:[00:07:04] Scott Moran: that always do that? Don't change the subject. Do you jerk off completely naked?
[:[00:07:11] Frank Roll III: Yeah, but that's what I'm saying, like no reflections from behind that will hit the screen. Like no light from behind that will cause a reflection on the screen. I can't have a glow. No orbs of any color.
[:[00:07:20] Frank Roll III: masturbate and stuff like that? No. There's not a ceremony for that.
[:[00:07:26] Scott Moran: why can't you just fucking watch a new movie? There's a ritual for movies, man. Sometimes the best movies come outta fucking
[:[00:07:39] Scott Moran: have to get balls deep in everything, but you can get more done if you don't put limitations on how you feel when you go into something.
[:[00:07:47] Frank Roll III: focus that I put into a movie when I watch it, It's
[:[00:07:54] Frank Roll III: put my nose to it and then I, I take three paces straight back and then I get on my knees, do a little bit of a thing, you know, get back up nose bump one more time and then I can sit down and watch it.
[:[00:08:07] Scott Moran: No fucking just, are you describing watching a movie or beating off? I can't figure it
[:[00:08:21] Frank Roll III: Some good vibes while I'm checking out these flicks. So yeah, I get in this old mode. But then what got, I go from these two, like war conflict movies, terrorism to, uh, gangs of New York, Martin Scorsese, smaller Scale, Martin Scorsese, just a neighborhood. There were movies that came out late nineties, early two thousands that were so, they felt so real at the time, or, you know, just dark
[:[00:08:44] Frank Roll III: Now when you watch Gangs of New York. Different feeling. Mm-hmm. And some of it's like, man, I remember this being so much more hardcore, but it doesn't hit the same.
[:[00:08:56] Frank Roll III: was Charlie Sheen in that
[:[00:09:00] Frank Roll III: that.
[:[00:09:21] Frank Roll III: So
[:[00:09:24] Frank Roll III: So I put my nose to the screen. I make sure my headset's tight, but in this restricting manner,
[:[00:09:49] Scott Moran: Yeah, that's
[:[00:09:55] Scott Moran: this is, you said that I just thought of him on Tim and Eric. Oh yeah. Drink the wine.
[:[00:10:08] Scott Moran: um, so this episode we're once again doing random movies off Hulu Random that we've never heard of before, but look enticing because why keep Hulu around if you can't provide me with movies I've never heard of before?
[:[00:10:28] Frank Roll III: in general? Yeah, maybe even like 1799. But we, like I said, the bundle. So it's a little more than that for
[:[00:10:44] Frank Roll III: through other apps.
[:[00:10:50] Scott Moran: like a big push for me. Yeah, you constantly think that. Things that are on Showtime or just on Hulu? Cuz you'll tell me about it and I'll be like, yeah,
[:[00:11:00] Frank Roll III: But the thing is, is that I think it's peacock or paramount also pushes showtime like heavy.
[:[00:11:12] Frank Roll III: told me that. But why would, if you don't get it for free, why would it think you, why would it like think that?
[:[00:11:19] Scott Moran: thing? Why would what think that what? Like
[:[00:11:23] Scott Moran: man. What are you talking about? Ai? No, you're not gonna confuse me. You just wandered into nonsense. Don't try to pass this off on me. No. Why
[:[00:11:41] Frank Roll III: Isn't that what you said?
[:[00:11:53] Frank Roll III: But maybe it's the level. No, and I wanna say it's peacock, but you definitely don't get it for free, just cuz you have the one.
[:[00:12:05] Scott Moran: so you're a thief and a liar?
[:[00:12:18] Frank Roll III: Um, but no man, when I look on the app, that's not who, because Showtime is through Hulu for us, whichever one it is. Whenever I see the Showtime movies, there's a lock on it. It's telling me I don't have it. That's what I'm telling you. Whichever
[:[00:12:41] Frank Roll III: Yeah. Yeah. But that, whichever one it is, I'm, they make it a little obvi. There's an icon. There's definitely an icon on the image. You know, like on the, I
[:[00:12:55] Frank Roll III: bringing it up cuz I still haven't watched it and I feel bad.
[:[00:12:59] Scott Moran: I'm sorry. Yeah, I'll be back for Becky, unless it goes somewhere else. Give me that beck. But yeah, we're justifying Hulu once again and we have picked this time. False positive. This was the biggest budget thing. I think on our list of things to watch on Hulu that we randomly found like, what the fuck
[:[00:13:20] Frank Roll III: Yeah, dude. I mean you've got oh, oh seven Broad City and Book of Kevin, but I
[:[00:13:30] Frank Roll III: The previews that I saw, cuz it, since it is like a Hulu original, did they even say, or exclusive? Yeah, it's, you know, samesies the, the trailers and just the cover.
[:[00:13:56] Scott Moran: all the Candace camera of it. Oh my
[:[00:14:03] Frank Roll III: Watch it. Anyway. I think I put it in the queue. I was just kind of waiting for a good time. So when you brought it up, I was like, man, I'm on. I'm on board with this. Let's give
[:[00:14:16] Frank Roll III: movie, Justin Throw, I've, I've shared air with him.
[:[00:14:20] Scott Moran: always that connection. So you're kind of in this movie too? I, you know Yeah.
[:[00:14:26] Scott Moran: Yeah. Uh, you've breathed his and you touched the tips of your pants. This is together. The light, the light
[:[00:14:42] Frank Roll III: Was it the Matador or something like that? That's a t-shirt right there. When he walks out in the fucking hotel lobby with those briefs and like the fucking
[:[00:14:59] Frank Roll III: Stop it. I see what you did there.
[:[00:15:21] Frank Roll III: Um, but you know, like I said, so I've shared air. You've got the,
[:[00:15:45] Frank Roll III: maybe they could use clips from this movie to promote birth control tests. I mean, you know what I mean?
[:[00:15:56] Frank Roll III: I really, I kind of fucking hated it.
[:[00:16:04] Frank Roll III: this was great. This was,
[:[00:16:16] Frank Roll III: why not. What was the nurse's name?
[:[00:16:22] Scott Moran: Why don't you try to read the summary
[:[00:16:36] Frank Roll III: John Hele, using a technique he invented Dr. Hendle Inseminate Lucy. She becomes pregnant with triplets, a set of twin boys and a girl. That was a, you didn't see that coming right in the movie. I was like, oh, well that's unexpected.
[:[00:16:55] Frank Roll III: that.
[:[00:17:12] Scott Moran: open in the, that's a nice way to say that.
[:[00:17:24] Frank Roll III: you know, speaking of Jackson Pollock, when he drops his sample, the doc's like it. That's, that's, that's good stuff. Or some shit like that. Right. That's the good stuff.
[:[00:17:52] Frank Roll III: Yeah, with no biggie. The way he takes such pride in luing up the tool, it's like he has the same. Pattern each time.
[:[00:18:03] Frank Roll III: No. Uh, yeah man. I mean, just, there's gotta be the female perspective on this. Hendle suggests the selective reduction, either the twins or the female should be terminated to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
[:[00:18:38] Frank Roll III: It was a lot of blood. Though paranoia seeps into Lucy's consciousness, giving her nightmares and a growing mistrust of Dr. Hendle as well as Adrian, she becomes fascinated with local Manhattan midwife, Grace Singleton, who emphasizes natural birth and rejecting the Western male idea that pregnancy is an illness that requires treating.
[:[00:18:59] Scott Moran: different, yeah. There was like so much Rosemary's baby in this movie. Mm-hmm. To the point where like, the baby in Rosemary's baby is named Adrian. Really
[:[00:19:11] Scott Moran: I only know that cuz I've read the book.
[:[00:19:13] Frank Roll III: thinking about the baby bird. Anyway, heel blames the paranoia on Tenal depression and prescribes her medication. The women in her support group of expecting mothers, call it mommy brain, just all nonchalant and shit. But when Lucy finds a file on her pregnancy proving she's part of an experiment, Lucy becomes certain, something sinister has been done to her unborn
[:[00:19:33] Scott Moran: Wendy, false positive premiered at Tribeca Film Festival June 18th in 2021. After being acquired by Hulu as an exclusive, it was directed by John Lee who wrote the screenplay with Alana Glacier. The film stars Alana Glacier as Lucy Martin, Justin Thoreau as Adrian Martin Whoop Pierce Brosnan is John Hendle.
[:[00:19:52] Frank Roll III: magic. Pure magic, gold. Anything he touches starts gold hold Z
[:[00:20:09] Frank Roll III: HBO one? Yeah. Yes. Oh my God.
[:[00:20:16] Scott Moran: Originally the story was conceived by Lee and the author Alyssa Nutting, who.
[:[00:20:32] Scott Moran: Now I have to read it again. I'm
[:[00:20:36] Scott Moran: I'd never be a doctor who wrote the books Tampa and made for Love the letter of which was turned into an H B O series.
[:[00:21:05] Frank Roll III: disappointed. I watched it.
[:[00:21:16] Frank Roll III: Well, I mean, they were very good about masking the actual,
[:[00:21:22] Frank Roll III: Yeah. Did you notice like even in the tub, they were just the hair placement? I mean, cuz did they ever really show like
[:[00:21:32] Scott Moran: Like see, um, it was like laid down, booby, you know, the fall, it's all good. It's the best time of the year.
[:[00:21:57] Frank Roll III: This, it was okay. I don't know where to begin. I just don't. Okay. Here.
[:[00:22:15] Scott Moran: Something's gonna happen. Yeah.
[:[00:22:24] Scott Moran: for another movie? And there were times throughout the movie where I didn't understand whether or not she was the hero or not. Was she actually
[:[00:22:32] Scott Moran: sense?
[:[00:22:52] Scott Moran: Not like, she like even like calls her out for being like, I'm not this like spiritual, like African with
[:[00:23:02] Scott Moran: called her, she said, I'm not a, a mystical egress. Yes.
[:[00:23:10] Scott Moran: Yeah. And so like that for sure was like, maybe she's nuts or she is, she for sure nuts there.
[:[00:23:31] Frank Roll III: gets, since we were on Grace Singleton, might as well go there now.
[:[00:23:50] Frank Roll III: I'm
[:[00:23:51] Frank Roll III: Like, okay. But I'm like, so cuz like I said, I'd seen our father real life scenario where a doctor's been planting a seed in. Unsuspecting women. Um, this scenario, you know, at this point in the movie, you're not sure what's going on with the doctor, but already something is off with oh oh seven, not shooting blanks.
[:[00:24:26] Frank Roll III: Situation. Sorry, movie's not coming to mind, but you know what I mean, like, let's Yeah. Yeah. I get what you're saying. You know, um, the movies were like the woman who's not wealthy, Mary's the wealthy guy. Then he like makes her look crazy to take the kid and run away with somebody else. Something like that.
[:[00:24:39] Scott Moran: I didn't know where exactly it was going, because then I get that everyone was supposed to seem suspect, but to also make her suspect. In that? Mm-hmm. Is she crazy or not? Like it felt counterproductive to the, the many points that they tried to make throughout the movie, all of which are good points.
[:[00:25:14] Frank Roll III: Yeah. So again, you know, just to simplify for this is a couple trying to get pregnant.
[:[00:25:22] Scott Moran: person. I think she was like a. Pr. Yeah. Marketing copywriter.
[:[00:25:29] Scott Moran: pregnancy up until they like, took her off the project or whatever, up until they
[:[00:25:35] Frank Roll III: But just they were so understanding in such a modern workplace. Yeah, sure.
[:[00:25:55] Scott Moran: Yeah. You're like, well, am I supposed to think she's crazy and nothing bad is happening? Or are you genuinely trying to make points about how this is, I I feel like these things are fucked
[:[00:26:09] Scott Moran: directions. And sometimes that would be good, but I don't feel like it was with this.
[:[00:26:34] Frank Roll III: This, like I said, cuz there were scenes that would've come out of some very dark horror movies. In this. Yeah. And
[:[00:26:52] Frank Roll III: yeah, and I'm sorry if you liked Haunting in Connecticut, but you know, like the trailer versus the movie.
[:[00:27:01] Scott Moran: Yeah. Like when the thing comes outta the kid's mouth. Yeah. I'm like, they almost fucking terrible. Yeah. And I was like, damn. But yeah, this had that to it. Like, but the ending scene of the movie compared to that, uh, there was a movie I watched where like, it was like a zombie baby that kept breastfeeding.
[:[00:27:31] Frank Roll III: Um, no. Uh, was it dawn of the, no, not the mall. No, that was just the baby born, zombie.
[:[00:27:38] Scott Moran: bad. Yeah, take back. It wasn't like a zombie baby. It was like drinking blood from her tit. That movie was called Grace, the one with the baby. Do you remember
[:[00:27:50] Scott Moran: Hold on. It was fucked up, but that made more of the point than this one did This one, this one made too many points all at once.
[:[00:27:59] Frank Roll III: They could have gone. Steer harder in that one direction. More Focus on this. Like, let's get
[:[00:28:20] Frank Roll III: Well, and this guy's a successful, one of the top five fertility doctors in the world, and she's fucking worried about a copy of like, he didn't get like 50 of them. Like 10. You didn't get some hand meows? Yeah, or some keepsakes. Why would you put it in your waiting room if that's the only one you got of the magazine you were waiting to be on the cover of?
[:[00:28:41] Scott Moran: did they put outta years? Just such a weird, was it her covering up that she was spying on her, or it didn't seem like, but then the whole thing of it
[:[00:28:48] Frank Roll III: What was real? What wasn't real? Yeah. But why was stuff real and stuff wasn't real? I mean,
[:[00:29:02] Frank Roll III: Because then it snaps right back to her actually being like, Hey, fuck you,
[:[00:29:11] Scott Moran: With the curtain billowing out. I was like, somebody gets pushed out a fucking window, dude. There
[:[00:29:23] Scott Moran: But did they do that even? No.
[:[00:29:29] Frank Roll III: I like. I think so. I like the idea. It is a little dark though, and it's one of those touchy things, you know, you're talking about fertility doctors, you know, like a woman's rights, basically. A woman's body. Even though it's this weird fictional horse I fi, whatever it is. Um, you're touching on some stuff that's like, you know, real hot topic right now in the real world.
[:[00:30:02] Scott Moran: Because they wouldn't have been able to do selective reduction
[:[00:30:08] Frank Roll III: Yeah. And I mean, I, I bet that, do you think the tools were accurate?
[:[00:30:19] Frank Roll III: And it's just one of those touchy things that's like bring a child into the world is a huge deal.
[:[00:30:34] Scott Moran: It's hard to say. I am a huge Alyssa Nutting fan. I read her book Tampa.
[:[00:30:59] Scott Moran: I wish I had read the book first. MM, made For Love is ridiculously good. Ray Romano's in it,
[:[00:31:29] Scott Moran: Make something bad actually happening to her and then never really let us know what happened other than like, did he really use his sperm? And then too many dream sequences made me be like, well, what's a dream and what's reality? Mm-hmm. Then why would you show me that? It was a dream every time. Well, yeah.
[:[00:31:49] Frank Roll III: Yeah. So you know, that is one of the hard, you know, like I'm saying, you want to go like hardcore
[:[00:32:00] Frank Roll III: standpoint of like, you know, white male medicine being pushed upon women.
[:[00:32:14] Scott Moran: with the Oh, yeah. And the advances that the world has had in that sort of thing mm-hmm. Are, is a gory, fucked up, bloody trail of dead people.
[:[00:32:33] Scott Moran: You know, and you're like, I mean, under doctor's care Yes, please. But at the same time, like, why not? That's the, say somebody offers you morphine at the hospital, you're gonna
[:[00:32:42] Frank Roll III: Well, I mean, there's things you, but like, you know, if you're breastfeeding, you know what I mean? Like after something like that, you know, a chance. There's just a lot that goes into
[:[00:32:50] Frank Roll III: yeah. And just all these, all these thoughts, you know, there's a, there's a lot of thought that goes into these things.
[:[00:33:05] Scott Moran: approach. It was very strange. It's thought, it's a weird approach at times. Like, I thought maybe it was gonna start to be a comedy or something.
[:[00:33:17] Frank Roll III: Oh, the fucking, the dream sequence of the rendezvous at the hotel. Yes.
[:[00:33:23] Frank Roll III: Oh oh seven.
[:[00:33:28] Frank Roll III: definitely dude on the go. But then again, with this, he turns around and it does the, you know, to the face so bad, terrible.
[:[00:33:45] Scott Moran: not. Fuck no, man. No. This movie
[:[00:33:51] Scott Moran: I love them all. I mean, that's what we're for. We, we will watch things no one else will watch.
[:[00:34:07] Frank Roll III: right now. I mean, yeah, we're, I mean, okay. You want to compare last week's worm to this? Yeah. Worm. Worm trump's false positive to me for sure,
[:[00:34:22] Scott Moran: Hereby justifying paying $17 for Hulu. I
[:[00:34:31] Scott Moran: compare Worm to all these movies.
[:[00:34:35] Scott Moran: even in the same realm, but that's why we picked an array of. Different things. Yeah.
[:[00:34:42] Frank Roll III: Definitely not a lifetime movie. Bigger cast and budget.
[:[00:34:48] Frank Roll III: yeah, I thought so. Here and there. Creepy ass nurse, dude. Just always a creepy nurse. Stepford wife looking nurse
[:[00:35:03] Scott Moran: Oh, how about when she fucking sticks that thing down her throat, and then she pulls it out and she says like, she's been working on her gag reflex. Oh yeah. Was that real or not? I've trained myself not to have a gag reflex. Like there was too much, like, I don't know if this is real or not, and it never really gets answered.
[:[00:35:32] Frank Roll III: And I mean, she walks out in the waiting room, she's like, you're gonna find a new doctor.
[:[00:35:40] Scott Moran: real, right? I think she definitely beat him up. But I don't even think it's worth necessarily sorting through all this mess. Okay.
[:[00:35:50] Scott Moran: what was the script like that got all these people on board?
[:[00:35:54] Frank Roll III: Quick thing. What was the noise in the apartment that we kept hearing? Did they ever acknowledge
[:[00:36:12] Frank Roll III: Dude, part of me when you know, My mind wanders. I was like, is he doing something with the reductions? He's like eating them. No, like growing them or something. Oh,
[:[00:36:23] Frank Roll III: safe, it's somewhere in the office. Maybe something in the office. Outside
[:[00:36:35] Frank Roll III: Stink. Hit the button. The damn mommy brain. Okay. That group of friends, that mom group that made me want to just like grind my teeth.
[:[00:36:47] Frank Roll III: her. Well, okay. And let me go back to one of those whole things with, what is it? Movies were like just the main, or just these super successful people, you know what I mean?
[:[00:37:01] Frank Roll III: that's what, but I mean their, their apartment is like the penthouse. With the high ass fucking two-story windows doctor, but it's always
[:[00:37:11] Frank Roll III: right?
[:[00:37:29] Frank Roll III: But that I wasn't vibing with those moms. I'm like, shit, you not my
[:[00:37:38] Frank Roll III: hair? I'm hoping she, that was her. I'm hoping that she has wonderful hair. Yeah. Love her hair. What the fuck? I'm hoping that was her. Yeah. Shirley. Look, she was an executive producer.
[:[00:37:52] Scott Moran: the way it always is. Well,
[:[00:38:03] Frank Roll III: So I'd see episodes going over to people's house. It was cool. I loved it. I liked that movie the night before. Cuz you know, we're big on Christmas, so we do all the Christmas movies the night before with Seth Rogan. You know, Joseph Gordon Levitt, uh, Anthony Mackey. Did you ever see it? Yeah, she's the crazy one.
[:[00:38:34] Frank Roll III: Oh yeah.
[:[00:38:36] Scott Moran: Um uh, rough night. Rough night. I fucking love that. That was
[:[00:38:47] Scott Moran: refrigerator. Oh, did you ever watch it? Yeah. Oh, it's, it's fucking good. I made it.
[:[00:39:12] Scott Moran: I
[:[00:39:20] Scott Moran: problem that backs me into a corner is I don't even know how you would fix it. You know? Yeah. How you would make it better, because it just, it wandered so aimlessly off track.
