He did a really good job and they rebooted it for Hulu and I was like, ah, I should finish season two and watch this reboot cuz I'm probably the reason it's canceled is I stopped watching it. Knowing my luck, I also watched Jay Silent Bob Reboot, which was, uh, nostalgic and got my heart in the end, but didn't need to happen.

[:[00:19:37] Frank Roll: I'm like, yeah, we're gonna do the, the episode tonight. Um, scary. No, but freaked me out, like made me feel weird. Yes. That intro man.

[:[00:20:17] Scott Moran: if that is a thing. I almost found this so.
[:[00:20:33] Frank Roll: It was, it was good.
[:[00:20:43] Scott Moran: I always talk about story structure and this is, uh, a little more eastern. There tends to be, uh, a lot of. Like four ACT plays. And I think that this movie had the same format.
[:[00:21:19] Scott Moran: I think that like, like Ring is not like that ring is a Western story. Well, and some
[:[00:21:30] Scott Moran: the American one. Yeah. It was a problem when they went and dealt with it. Yeah. Well, not even the American one. They're almost essentially the same story, but even the Japanese ring and the book are almost Western in the way they tell the story.
[:[00:21:51] Frank Roll: Incantation is a Taiwanese found footage horror film that follows a woman named Lee Ronan, who is documenting bringing her daughter Doto home after a mental break in a six year stay in a mental facility.
[:[00:22:15] Scott Moran: or something. Maybe I think more time was passing in this movie than I was, than what we were shown aware
[:[00:22:20] Frank Roll: Yeah. Um, the present day footage is cut together with incidents of six years earlier. Ronan, her boyfriend Dom and his cousin Yon, are filming a ghost hunting documentary. They all get together, they visit the boy's family in a rural village. Uh, that's where the malkovich door is that I'm talking about.
[:[00:22:56] Frank Roll: The elders asked the three to submit their names to a ritual. And finding out at that moment, she is pregnant. Ronan has told she must also submit the name of her child upon birth. That's that shit I was talking about. There's things in life I'll never even fucking play with. I just You
[:[00:23:12] Frank Roll: Yeah. I would've been like, no, fuck this. This is fucking weird. Don't wanna risk it. You don't know about supernatural stuff. Just if you don't poke it, maybe it won't bite you. But when they meet the young girl, Being willingly prepared for sacrifice. Tatted the fuck up, the trio breaker, religious taboo, following her into a tunnel to film.

[:[00:23:51] Frank Roll: And the incantation is a curse that has diluted the more people

[:[00:24:18] Scott Moran: and for which I guess explains my main question, which was, is this a good time to pay for a camera? The day you get your child back from Child Protective Services, , I'll, I'll, I'll buy a new camera.

[:[00:24:51] Frank Roll: much like our , well, you know, I'm thinking, okay, she's a woman who's been in mental care for years. The apartment in a place like that, I'm like, that seems pretty good size compared to some of the shit that I've seen from places like that. You know, like, yeah.

[:[00:25:16] Frank Roll: theater group. I don't know. Yeah. Um, I mean, she was part of a ghost hunting club. Like what would you say that was?
[:[00:25:23] Scott Moran: was, I guess she was younger, but I mean, It's like drug addicts when they get clean, they're whatever age they were when they started. Yeah. You go to a mental hospital, probably still 21
[:[00:25:36] Scott Moran: Incantation was directed by Kevin Coe and written by Chong Te way.
[:[00:25:58] Scott Moran: I should have written it down, but I don't think you would've chanted it with me. Nope. ,
[:[00:26:05] Scott Moran: The true story is only vaguely similar. Wherein the Taiwanese family in 2005 claimed to be possessed by various Chinese folk and religious deities accusing one another of being demons. They burned and beat each other with sticks and spirit tablets, which I don't know what a spirit tablet is, but I picture it being kind of heavy.
[:[00:26:50] Scott Moran: Hmm. So, uh, Yeah, ultimately interested me more than the plot of the movie.
[:[00:26:59] Scott Moran: dig? I could find articles, but they were not translating well. Oh. From, I think they were in Mandarin, but like I couldn't read some of them clearly, so I was like, this is, this might not be good information.
[:[00:27:28] Frank Roll: area. Well wait when she noticed or when, uh, the mom cuts off the second one.
[:[00:27:33] Scott Moran: yeah, yeah. . Yeah. The ear cutting. Mm-hmm. regardless. Similar to that tongue incident. And that was really, Same area of the world that happened. Yeah. Maybe that's a little more common. Same sort of Buddhism. Other than that, it deviated significantly from what that sort of Buddhism looks like.

[:[00:30:30] Scott Moran: Don't fuck with the movie. Like, at least like Ridley Scott is keeping multiple versions of Blade Runner in Circula. Release all of 'em for the people who remember it that way.

I was fucking convinced they were speaking English. and it was that first night, the set and I, you know, I had to stop it, but when I went back to watch it, I was like, oh, I'm stupid . That was, that was definitely just dubbed.

Mm-hmm. . It's just one of those little things. Yuan's glasses didn't have fucking lenses in 'em. They didn't. They didn't. I don't like that shit.

Cause I was like, wait, like it's still like the way you can kind of see the cheek sometimes, like the lighting on the cheek is when you realize, whoa, there's not a glare, there's not a lens.

[:[00:35:06] Frank Roll: obviously didn't want Ronan's character to be solo.
[:[00:35:20] Frank Roll: he, when he makes the decision to assist her in evading the police, you know, I, maybe that was supposed to hit harder than it did.
[:[00:35:29] Scott Moran: Well, it was because they show. Him just go ahead and help her. And then they doubled back to his debate moment, maybe 25 minutes later. Was it like that? Yeah, it was a, it was a ways on,
[:[00:35:41] Scott Moran: right. When they actually show, showed, showed it again. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That would, that added to the confusion of like, when is this happening?

[:[00:36:27] Frank Roll: I had a Europa report moment. See, that was part of what I didn't like about like a found footage thing. Yeah. It didn't have like the documentary style where they were getting people's opinions on what had happened, like Europa did. But the way that that opening narration and then your closing narration was
[:[00:36:44] Scott Moran: Mm-hmm. . Was lost in its inconsistency.
[:[00:36:50] Scott Moran: Yeah. Doesn't, I didn't really like it in that one. I would've rather it been a
