Deadstream
[:[00:00:09] Frank Roll: Hollywood and the independent
video
[:[00:00:18] Scott Moran: Receive streaming services and ask the question, what the fuck is that? Does this hold up? And just, what the hell is a good movie? Anyway, I'm Frank Roll. I'm Scott Moran and we are the last
[:[00:00:35] Frank Roll: Binging. Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing,
[:[00:00:39] Frank Roll: bing,
[:[00:00:40] Frank Roll: bing, bing, Chandler, bing, , bing.
[:[00:00:55] Frank Roll: Ow. I think you saying that makes mine kick in.
[:[00:01:01] Frank Roll: a d d.
[:no.
[:[00:01:26] Scott Moran: What season did you say you were on? Two, two? Uh, it's nothing. I don't know. I just enjoy watching it. Gotcha. Did you ever watch one? I. Okay. Most of it I think, but also same thing, like I didn't discover anything new. You wanted
[:[00:01:45] Scott Moran: You wanted to watch it . Yeah, like I love it. I like listening to all those people talk. But I'm like, I've watched all the DVD features on all this shit. It was
[:[00:01:58] Scott Moran: of it. , I really like watching Stephen King talk about Stephen King movies.
[:[00:02:08] Frank Roll: Is that another one where he goes off on Stanley Kubrick for
[:[00:02:18] Scott Moran: It bounces so much. God, it's been so much. It's a long interview and that's what I'd really like to watch. Yeah, Stephen King should do podcast circuits. I would listen to him talk so much. I don't really wanna listen to him read an audio book. , just FairWarning to anyone who's going to do that. Like it's okay, but it.
[:[00:02:43] Frank Roll: I'd be like, weren't you in the postman? ?
[:[00:02:49] Frank Roll: Didn't Richard Gear go to your fucking mobile home in the woods? ? I'm gonna, no. Uh uh.
[:[00:03:06] Scott Moran: Yeah. I just, I'm maxed out and so yeah, you're still doing
[:[00:03:09] Scott Moran: of us. I'm not caught up. Yeah. Yeah. And like I told you, I started playing left behind and then I couldn't stop and I'm now playing last of us too. Again, , putting myself through all that emotional distress. You know, one thing leads to another, I lean into it.
[:[00:03:29] Frank Roll: everything. I, yeah. It's hard to come by. I
[:[00:03:45] Scott Moran: Way over action sequences.
[:[00:03:52] Scott Moran: like they were, you say deep a lot. What do you mean by deep though?
[:[00:04:02] Scott Moran: before.
[:[00:04:15] Frank Roll: Well, no, and I just, I really want, I really wanna put out there, it's not that I think it doesn't have enough action that takes me back to my PTSD from like, District nine at the video store where people just didn't get it.
[:[00:04:28] Scott Moran: It was all aliens, more spaceships. There's arguably more aliens than human
[:[00:04:40] Scott Moran: would it have been to work at the video store when Arrival came out?
[:[00:04:48] Frank Roll: be really bad. No, it would. It well, We told Olympia's parents. And they rented the Charlie scene one.
[:[00:05:01] Frank Roll: not the same I've, I've felt, so I'm not against the AR arrival with Charlie. Did they like
[:[00:05:07] Frank Roll: Sheen? I don't think so. Oh. But me, I feel like, wasn't that around 96, 97? You had to be there. Yeah. It was fun. Then. Did you know it had a video game?
[:[00:05:25] Scott Moran: very few movie video games were any fucking good back then. Every now and then they'd nail it.
[:[00:05:32] Frank Roll: I was gonna say now it's hard for them to nail it outside of Marvel. That Avengers game was popular. And of course there's other Marvel
[:[00:05:47] Frank Roll: Yeah.
[:to
[:[00:05:54] Frank Roll: yeah, I mean, they failed it. Like the Predator games. The alien games. I remember, uh, back in the Hollywood days, there was Terminator Salvation. There was a game.
[:[00:06:08] Scott Moran: So it doesn't go either way. You can't turn a movie into a video game most of the time. Mm-hmm. Spider-Man, they made Spider-Man games drawing on more than just movie plot, because I remember.
[:[00:06:23] Frank Roll: I mean, really it starts with comics too. Um, Terminator was never like a comic, so that one is even kind of different to me cuz it was like real movie, two
[:[00:06:35] Scott Moran: It had to be at some point. Right. Well, I mean, but before the movie. Oh no, not before
[:[00:06:42] Scott Moran: character. Yeah, there are. We are just drowning in unoriginal ideas. Nobody's coming up with new shit and nobody's just making one movie.
[:[00:06:58] Frank Roll: I know I saw something. There's something for Harry Potter's, a new Harry Potter like series, possibly on HBO or movies. I've heard mixed things today, so I don't know what's real and what's not. I haven't dug
[:[00:07:14] Scott Moran: Mm-hmm. , when they were gonna make Star Wars TV shows. They're better than movies. , so fuck it. .
[:[00:07:25] Scott Moran: moment. Yeah. I need to dive deeper than just,
[:[00:07:33] Frank Roll: Uh, there were a couple that I was really excited about. Two of. . Oh, you turned both of 'em off. Turned both movies off. Uh, it stains the Sand Red. A zombie movie I kept wanting to call. Sand Runs
[:[00:07:53] Frank Roll: Uh, uh, awful. I can tell you at 1.1 of the. So it's a, like a, a one woman trying to escape one zombie in the desert. I'm like, this can only go so far. It's one of those casts that I feel like they probably used to do porn movies. I mean, you couldn't have gotten two. Well, so , something I've never seen done before, or maybe I just don't remember.
[:[00:08:33] Frank Roll: Could you imagine
[:[00:08:37] Frank Roll: Claire's just like, yeah. Instead of a rock instead of a rocker, a fucking bullet case. You're like, how many
[:[00:08:43] Frank Roll: need in one night? But you gotta be careful where you throw it too, cuz it'll stick . Oh my.
[:[00:08:55] Frank Roll: That is awful.
[:[00:09:00] Frank Roll: Uh, the next one, eighties, 1984 of interest to me, Russia, sci-fi underwater. Give it to me. Give it to me super deep. Didn't like it. It
[:[00:09:17] Scott Moran: It was anything but deep
[:[00:09:26] Scott Moran: You know what I mean? A reason you only hear about one ass Russian sci-fi movie from the seventies, eighties. Well, I mean,
[:[00:09:37] Frank Roll: I never watched it. I started it, it looked fine. I just had, I never finished it. But Sputnik, I'd give another chance. This one, I don't think I would start it over again.
[:[00:09:47] Frank Roll: The original one? Um, not the whole thing, man. Not enough. Not enough to know anything about it.
[:[00:09:55] Scott Moran: slow. Don't watch it when you're tired.
[:[00:10:09] Frank Roll: You know, you read the, you're, you want it to work. Yeah. Um, I'm rooting for them to work, but I've finished the Pacific. It's done never again. I mean, you only need to watch like that. Or . Yeah. I don't know. Uh, con on
[:[00:10:28] Scott Moran: Yeah, the day was really late,
[:[00:10:43] Frank Roll: It's just like this constant flow of like kind of information, kind of information. Then like, haha, fuck you, . Like, I'm British, God. Sorry, I don't know. , but yeah, it's, it's good. Um, and then I started another true crime, uh, it's called a murda murders a southern scandal. Is Danny Glover in it? South
[:[00:11:04] Scott Moran: No, but you said.
[:[00:11:27] Scott Moran: So he's like the bad guy in a small town drama
[:[00:11:32] Scott Moran: like. Yeah. Like Will Patton in outer range
[:[00:11:46] Scott Moran: I think that was also Will Patton, was that him? Are you talking about falling skies?
[:[00:12:03] Scott Moran: They did give the creators of DA a five year deal for canceling 1899. Oh. But they gave him a new show. Hmm. So thanks. Thank
[:[00:12:16] Scott Moran: Yeah. You're still, try not to cancel this one on your way outta,
[:[00:12:21] Frank Roll: Just watch some true crime documentaries. They're not all great. You'll know if you like it or not. Try not
to
[:[00:12:31] Frank Roll: upgrade.
[:[00:12:45] Scott Moran: soon? You know, Hulu's kind of dying. Now that I have peacock, I do not check it very often anymore at
[:[00:12:53] Frank Roll: Paramount Plus has the spacing is just, I feel like peacock's getting 'em faster than Paramount Plus, and I'm not gonna say they're bigger titles either. I think Peacock is doing a, in my eyes, peacock is doing a little bit better than Paramount Plus
[:[00:13:11] Frank Roll: Yeah, that's on Amazon, right? Peacock. Oh, paramount. Plus you're talking
[:[00:13:23] Frank Roll: No, I was fucking with you and I saw you get lost
[:[00:13:32] Scott Moran: It was weird as for a second there, I started trying to think of a way to connect Will Patton to what we were talking about and I couldn't do it. Upgrade
[:[00:13:50] Scott Moran: So what'd you think of Deadstream? Oh, uh, deadstream. Um, oh, did you have more, more stuff you
[:[00:14:05] Scott Moran: Good advertising. Can I have it for free?
[:[00:14:16] Scott Moran: where would you put this one in your found footage? Hall of Fame. Oh, I mean
[:[00:14:20] Scott Moran: pace. Was it a different found footage movie than it is you
[:[00:14:27] Frank Roll: But I haven't seen this, and I don't want this to offend you, but I almost felt like evil dead vibes. It did.
[:[00:14:41] Frank Roll: know I just said vi, but I don't want to compare it to Evil Dead.
[:[00:14:45] Scott Moran: there. The VII board in the movie said, PlatU Verto ntu from Army of Darkness. Mm. There were lit . Mm. I don't get it. .
[:[00:14:58] Scott Moran: I mean, some things happened that also happened in Evil Dead
[:[00:15:10] Scott Moran: can I, no, you have to , you have to compare it to Evil Dead, but, but you don't have to compare it. It was a, it was a love letter.
[:[00:15:21] Scott Moran: At its core, it was the formula.
[:[00:15:46] Frank Roll: yeah. The social media presence and. Yeah, a few of these lately, it's what's in,
[:[00:16:05] Scott Moran: They can't
[:[00:16:13] Scott Moran: corner, there's something to stand in a corner. The simplicity. So good. This one impressed me because they kept going, like every time I, I was like, I was like, if they try to pull back now, they're gonna lose me a little bit.
[:[00:16:37] Frank Roll: Pretty good. One of the jump scares did catch me off guard.
[:[00:16:45] Frank Roll: Deadstream is a found footage, horror comedy that follows Sean, a YouTuber that performs stunts to overcome his fears.
[:[00:17:13] Frank Roll: Several occupants have died and are reported to haunt the various rooms. If Sean leaves or fails to investigate paranormal occurrences fully, he forfeits the sponsorship. After he sets up cameras throughout the house, catches a few haunting images accidentally destroys award placed in the upstairs closet.
[:[00:17:31] Scott Moran: Also, she doesn't explain at all how she got into.
[:[00:17:46] Frank Roll: And
[:[00:17:48] Frank Roll: Yes. You know, he did hear the louder thump. There was some thumps, but right before she showed up there was ths and that's when he heard like the children running sound. But then she's there. So maybe he thought, oh, that was. The two have a seance to provoke the spirit, and Chrissy convinces him to recite a Latin phrase to put the spirit to rest.
[:[00:18:17] Scott Moran: a lot. A lot. There's a lot of. Finger second. That's one. That was the most evil dead thing.
[:[00:18:23] Frank Roll: finger in there. I thought she was going to like implant a spore.
[:[00:18:29] Frank Roll: Yeah. I, but I thought it was gonna cost something to grow, but No, it didn't. But getting stuck in there was fucking gross too. Gross enough? Yeah. I
[:[00:18:38] Scott Moran: Also, he got splattered with stuff like left
[:[00:18:46] Scott Moran: deadstream was written, directed, and produced by husband and wife, team Joseph and Vanessa, winter. Joseph also plays Sean in the film alongside Melanie Stone, who plays Chrissy Deadstream, premiered in 2022 at South by Southwest and became a shutter original later that year. You can, of course, as we said, watch it on AMC Plus as.
[:[00:19:26] Frank Roll: IMDB was a
[:[00:19:27] Scott Moran: I feel like it went up since I checked it. The
[:[00:19:35] Scott Moran: you read any of the one star reviews? No. The one and two star reviews for this movie were like, I forgot, I need my notes. . I felt so comfortable.
[:[00:19:56] Frank Roll: me? The fucking sound design is bad. I
[:[00:20:10] Scott Moran: Okay. And just those guys in reference to that have
[:they
[:[00:20:23] Frank Roll: demonn,
[:[00:20:27] Frank Roll: woods.
[:[00:20:30] Scott Moran: God. Or like the cudo coming off a little boy, uh, the
[:[00:20:46] Frank Roll: Like
[:[00:21:08] Scott Moran: You were like, we are barreling through this haunted house way too quickly. Right. and I don't like what you're running
[:[00:21:28] Frank Roll: Cuz again, it's just something different in that genre. You know what I mean?
[:[00:21:36] Frank Roll: really cool. . It was so good. There were just, uh, you could say, uh, we brought up haunted house before, uh, haunted house was the Marlon Wayans take on like paranormal activity and grudge, stuff like that.
[:[00:21:56] Scott Moran: like Honda. No, because this guy could exist and it, that was the thing was a lot of those complaints in the one and two star reviews mm-hmm. were that this feels too much like a YouTube video. And I was like, that's literally
[:[00:22:08] Frank Roll: Yeah. That's the point of the movie. And
[:[00:22:25] Scott Moran: Yeah, , I'm attached to your head right now. Um, like, I can't get away. And so that was really fucking effective to scare the shit outta me. Well, at the same time, this movie was hilarious all
[:[00:22:42] Frank Roll: You know what I mean?
[:[00:22:54] Frank Roll: Well, so you know that that's coming. You know, like, and I'm pretty sure they do that. They didn't hide it, I feel, I mean, no,
[:[00:23:00] Scott Moran: Did you, and lots of spoilers. What did you know that, uh, that that was Mildred, that she was gonna be Mildred
[:[00:23:19] Frank Roll: Um, at first I thought she was one of the camera crew and they had died and he would fi, somebody would be like, found this footage from the 94 documentary. and then he watches it and he's like, oh, that's her. Or I was like, or that's Mildred, because I
[:[00:23:39] Scott Moran: Oh yeah. He was sending him videos.
[:[00:23:59] Frank Roll: like wtf mate, , you know, she's .
[:[00:24:21] Scott Moran: even if it's fucking fake. Oh, the
[:[00:24:30] Frank Roll: No. And again, that's why real life, like I don't fuck with it. I don't fuck with it. It,
[:[00:24:39] Frank Roll: Wouldn't have gone in solo . My whole thing was like, if I ever do a ghost thing, I believe like, uh, strength in numbers. I'm talking like 50 man expedition. Well, 50 person expedition. Sorry.
[:[00:24:54] Frank Roll: there. Guess what?
[:[00:24:59] Scott Moran: with your backs to each other and hold knives.
[:[00:25:14] Frank Roll: I've thought about it. So strengthen numbers, right? You go in 50, a hundred people. So check it out. If the shit's really that fucked up, if there is activity, if, if you can somehow get it on film or audio evp, that's, it's one of those. . It's one of those things, like
[:[00:25:33] Frank Roll: I mean, it's, it, it, I feel like it'd be a milestone.
[:[00:25:39] Scott Moran: And cut
[:[00:26:02] Frank Roll: That's my whole, if I were, were gonna ever fuck with it, it would be something that would have to be funded.
[:[00:26:09] Frank Roll: minimum. , it would be expensive as fuck travel for everybody. I
[:[00:26:16] Frank Roll: to the mental hospital.
[:[00:26:22] Scott Moran: you go stay the night in an abandoned mental hospital with five people? No, five is, if it never had any recorded incidents of haun. No . Nope.
[:[00:26:39] Scott Moran: It's fucking with it. Telling
[:[00:26:47] Scott Moran: with it. Do you wanna play Bloody Mary right now? ?
[:[00:26:52] Scott Moran: now.
[:[00:27:00] Frank Roll: tiring. We talked about it was a spree, how there was so much work and effort put into spree. Right. The, the comments there. The, yeah. And easily
[:[00:27:10] Frank Roll: Yeah.
[:[00:27:15] Scott Moran: Yeah. The one they wanted you to see. The emphasized comment. Yeah. Cause I never do that sort of thing. I don't know how that works. If you're like, certain people get highlighted comments or something. Mm-hmm. , some of it was hilarious. Immediately turning on him and then like being back on his side.
[:[00:27:34] Frank Roll: fast. Let's do a.
[:[00:27:40] Frank Roll: I didn't see that.
[:[00:27:48] Frank Roll: No, they were so good. You know, I want to say, I think Sree still did it better.
[:[00:27:58] Frank Roll: Okay. What I could appreciate, he was turning it on and off. We didn't. The majority of the time, I'd say. What do you mean? The actual
[:[00:28:08] Scott Moran: Oh, the comments, yeah. Spree was constant.
[:[00:28:22] Frank Roll: It was for sure
[:[00:28:25] Frank Roll: watch, man. At least because that's the Fitbit that I had that was like the cheap. You know, I don't remember what it was
[:[00:28:38] Scott Moran: Oh.
[:[00:28:47] Scott Moran: Oh, a hundred percent. Yeah. Even the fucking weird little like, ooh, spooky smoke specter in the hallway. Like, I was like, yeah,
[:[00:28:56] Frank Roll: I hate that. Yeah, because then he.
[:[00:29:01] Frank Roll: I was like, I'm strapped to your head. Yeah, you do. . Oh. Had he already seen that one before Chrissy showed up? That was when
[:[00:29:15] Frank Roll: notice the door opened outward towards the hallway.
[:[00:29:20] Scott Moran: she gets in though? Yeah, she just pulls the
[:[00:29:28] Scott Moran: Not a great safe
[:[00:29:36] Frank Roll: Okay, I just want to throw this out there now because I did like the movie, but I didn't like the idea cuz everything again, so well planned in this one. Right? His backpack essentials and it covered the story. Dude, his camera coverage, his little rig that he had going. Little custom rig. Great. When you really needed to leave, how do you plan on getting the spark plugs better?
[:[00:30:03] Scott Moran: the content man. But
[:[00:30:14] Scott Moran: Well, I wouldn't do that .
[:[00:30:28] Scott Moran: I mean, they got the Fitbit.
[:[00:30:35] Frank Roll: Fucking wrist
[:[00:30:41] Frank Roll: for him. That was fucking great. Cause was like at one point, yeah, you're do that. You're gonna do it. If I'm in that situation, fuck. In the way he charged. He knew. He was like, I'm going for it.
[:[00:30:59] Frank Roll: moment, dude. When he had the rope tied and was about to jump out the window, that's when he saw fucking. Uh, total recall, right? Yeah.
[:[00:31:09] Frank Roll: sorry. The Qua. It was a good one. The special effects were good. Those costumes, they were great.
[:[00:31:24] Scott Moran: Frantic every se like action sequence in the movie. and when he would, like, he'd go into like phone mode where he'd be looking at his iPad,
[:[00:31:37] Frank Roll: attention to these people, the sneak up behind. But thankfully, they didn't overplay that.
[:[00:31:47] Frank Roll: background.
[:[00:32:02] Scott Moran: Yeah, she was all pale like in the grudge and shit.
[:[00:32:05] Frank Roll: you notice she got nastier as the movie went along?
[:[00:32:09] Frank Roll: Yeah. Yeah. Little more. Uh,
[:[00:32:26] Scott Moran: And there's like not, and there's like a bunch of thumping. How often would you say that people survive a found footage? It's like the one genre of movie where most of the time the main character dies.
[:[00:32:46] Frank Roll: Um, there's this one Hell house El Did you ever see Hell House lls? No,
[:[00:32:51] Frank Roll: Hell House was one that like, legit kind of freaked me the fuck out. Like it was
[:[00:33:01] Frank Roll: I think llc, that was the first one.
[:[00:33:09] Scott Moran: Can you think of any that somebody lives main character
[:[00:33:14] Scott Moran: fine, like the main character makes it through the found footage.
[:[00:33:24] Frank Roll: Mm-hmm. . It's not, that's a good one. I would have to think about it a little bit longer because like I said just now, I haven't thought of the gallows in forever, but, and I hadn't thought of hell house, but as soon as I said hell house, I'm like, oh yeah, the gallows was one I watched about the same time.
[:[00:33:38] Frank Roll: Archive 81, is it 81 or 80? It's 81 archive.
[:[00:33:45] Frank Roll: think I can. . It's literal found footage that he's going through,
[:[00:33:57] Scott Moran: Well, and when I say, and it's not, that part
isn't
[:[00:34:09] Scott Moran: right? Well, I mean, if there were no sandwiches left, there would literally be no
[:[00:34:14] Frank Roll: God damn. I'm so sorry. Literally it fried my brain a little right there. That was the purpose from the trailer. The first time you showed me this trailer, I was like, yeah, that's gonna be all right. And I didn't realize it was gonna be this funny, like while being scary.
[:[00:34:34] Scott Moran: Yeah.
[:[00:34:36] Scott Moran: chuckled and that's why like I think it's fine to, this is a love letter to Evil
[:[00:34:51] Scott Moran: What was like Three Stooges Comedy like Evil Dead has, and then
[:[00:35:02] Frank Roll: Man is tidy
[:[00:35:10] Frank Roll: fucking wear those? I don't know. But I loved how he
[:[00:35:16] Frank Roll: Well, and he labeled every camera throughout the movie, and some of them were awesome.
[:[00:35:21] Scott Moran: the camera labels were amazing. The beef camera, beef cam on the Slim gym .
[:[00:35:33] Scott Moran: Spear camera I think was a good spear cam. Yeah, there were some good ones.
[:[00:35:40] Scott Moran: seen it. I think what was especially good about this, the setup was legit with the social media thing.
[:[00:36:06] Scott Moran: But don't do the apartment 1 43 thing where you're gonna show me a little, yeah, like really fucking do it. The Mildred ghost. Was like, it was like laughing and fucking, eh, having a good time. I really like that demo. It's
[:[00:36:30] Frank Roll: Like, he takes that shit personally, dude. Like they're about to fucking subscribe to her. Shit.
[:[00:36:38] Frank Roll: showed up. Like that's part of his main drive at the, at the end of the movie. It's like, no, fuck that. She's not stealing the show. Oh
[:[00:36:49] Scott Moran: Yeah. . He yelled like, I'm the
[:[00:37:10] Frank Roll: Did you not see it?
[:[00:37:15] Frank Roll: He's, I think he already has spear. I think it's him going with spear cam and he stops at the bottom of the stairs, I'm gonna say. And it's the one that's looking at him. The camera that's looking at him. Yeah. The So camera from Pie, dude. , you just see legs go up through a fucking hole in the
[:[00:37:31] Scott Moran: I was so focused in the beginning of it on seeing something in the background. Okay. And then didn't, I stopped
[:[00:37:46] Frank Roll: I, I tried to scan, but really I'm like, pick one and. But then who knows what I was missing? It
[:[00:37:54] Frank Roll: movie and I thought the IMD went down. Don't let it go down. I hope. I hope the one star, two star reviewers out there understand what this movie was supposed to be.
[:[00:38:23] Frank Roll: This one was great. They nailed it. If you've ever seen any of those ghost hunters or ghost adventures or any of those, you know, ghost chasers, like there were so many, they nailed it.
[:[00:38:50] Frank Roll: Seen them all. And these guys, they really touched on that in just the right
[:[00:39:04] Frank Roll: The fact that you think there's a safe room and there kind of was there was He fucked it up.
[:[00:39:10] Scott Moran: he is like, what's this? Takes it off the wall, man. You leave the weird roon alone. Oh,
[:[00:39:35] Frank Roll: Yeah. He comes up, I'm like, oh, he's not that scary. And then there's like a little tussle, but I'm like, yeah, that wasn't scary. But then like you're saying, that's where beef cam comes into play right after. And his death
[:[00:39:45] Frank Roll: Well, and that's also where he is like waiting for instructions or whatever, but he's also looking at be the old lady.

Because I'm like, how did you walk into this? You know, like, how did you like, go into like a, like a forest and be like, I fucking hate trees.
[:[00:40:45] Frank Roll: I've walked into . ,
[:[00:40:56] Frank Roll: If you're a found footage whore like myself and you also, you know, like a good comedy. It's a good one. Just

[:[00:41:11] Scott Moran: Marine. Do you wanna do skim
[:[00:41:15] Scott Moran: is
[:[00:41:21] Scott Moran: We're doing the art of self defense, and then we'll pop back for Skinamirink.
