Prey

scott: [:

Frank: the thing is we sat down and started watching it and something happened and I was like, just jot it down. I jotted down three things and like I said,

scott: one of them is blown up. I like that though. You're more of a predator guy than I am fucking love predator.

The Friday was crazy Sandman. I watched the whole fucking season. two days. I missed that and, uh, I hope he gets another. Because it's really close to the source material. Yeah. But I don't know. That's more for the Dr. Who crowd. Okay. Good to know. Your wife will really like. it's a little bit more of the fantasy Harry Potter, but way more fucked up.

And, uh, she's

Frank: been balls deep in Harry Potter lately.

scott: I think she'll like Sandman. I loved the comic book and this was a really close adaptation. I think they sort of gender swapped one or two people okay. In it. But not really, like, sometimes you gotta do it for the script. I know when I was a kid, I thought desire was a woman Uhhuh, like just with short hair and they.

A trans [:

Just one of the best episodes of a TV show I've ever seen. Okay. Really, really good. And Kelly liked it, which I don't think I necessarily could have sold that to her if I had really shown her what it was so it was good. Always

Frank: good with the sneak attack.

scott: Yeah. And then you don't know what you're getting fucking, all those movies came out too.

Some theater bodies, bodies, and,

Frank: uh, pushing it hard everywhere.

scott: Yeah. Bullet train, bullet. Both of which I wanna see. Yeah. But they're on the list. I got note out the way instead. So gotta get the note out of the way, but this is a prey episode.

Frank: yeah, I was so excited about pre I didn't even know it was a thing till what, two months ago.

Maybe.

h. That was when you told me [:

Frank: know, when I'm watching a TV show, I can tell when they give me filler.

Well

scott: also is this filler? Yeah, I can't, well, I can get this out faster so we can talk about things we wanna talk about that are more current. Yeah. And, uh,

Frank: no, and it's awesome that we get to do predator, cuz like you said, I'm, I'm I'm way into

scott: predator. Well, I feel like this should have come out in the movie theater.

I would've gone to see this in the movie

Frank: theater. Well just the promotion alone. I, I don't know how I missed. Two months ago, I feel as if two or three months ago was when I first noticed an

scott: ad for it. And this is so in our realm, see, I feel like me and you are alien guys, but I'm more of an alien guy and you're a little of.

You like pre you like predator movies more than I generally do.

Frank: One of my dreams in life would be to get an alien printed on my entire ribcage. And then on the other side, a predator on the other rib cage, very

scott: gothy. I

Frank: like it. It's and that's the commitment too. And you know, I don't just turned

, so I'm [:

Like it's, you know, those guys that get those tattoos around there, like, you know, in their Dick route. Well, like, you're not gonna want that Dick root tattoo when you're 45.

Frank: Well, you know what I mean? I would go from a soldier alien to the queen alien. It could be like a transformation.

scott: I think those are cool tattoos.

I like alien tattoos, man. They're good. I would get a little Jonesy.

like his little cat carrier. Yeah. Yeah. And I don't even like. But that's, that's very

Frank: original, but I like that one. No, I love that. That's so see, that's my thing. That's why I don't have more tattoos is cuz I'm not

scott: original enough. There's an artist. Keith P reign and his website is called the P is for penis and he draws these like pinup girls.

table by her and I was like, [:

Frank: you get Kate Winslet Titanic vibes from, oh, trick question.

scott: sorry. I had to do it. No, that's someone I like to paint like your French girls.

Frank: See what, you know, a line

scott: from it. I know that's why I never have to see this fucking movie, but I was really, really pumped for this movie and I liked it. I couldn't

Frank: wait. I was really happy. It was right after my birthday. It was like a slightly late birthday present from the movie world.

I watched it what, the second night it was out.

scott: Yeah, I got, yeah, I almost watched it Thursday, like really late cuz they dropped it at midnight. Mm-hmm

Frank: by the time I got home and I, and I did all the little things and I was finally getting ready for bed. It was on. Like it was on. I could have,

scott: you were like, oh yeah.

Cuz like still one more day of word. Did you watch it with your wife? Yes. Kelly was not interested in this one, but now that she's hearing other people talk about it, I think I can get her to watch it

Frank: well and you know, I helped sell it because it's, it's a different take on the story than what we've seen before.

scott: So they owe you money.[:

Frank: you know, apparently there's not that much in the streaming game. So, you know, I take a role in something. If, if that could

scott: be like a payment as not into some predator releases over the last decade, I, uh, I was a little more excited about this. I feel like this is what a predator movie is, is like they're on their, I forget what they call it in the movie, but the predators are on their go kill a beast and bring it back.

And so this is perfect. Yes. Setting wise mm-hmm and gosh, it was good, man. It was a very tasteful predator movie but it also, uh, it, it had. Some funky cheese to it. Funky

Frank: cheese. Well, I hold on, explain to me the funky cheese first. I wanna hear about the funky cheese first before I praise it on my

scott: knee's predator.

Cheeriness stuck in there in a couple places. You gotta admit the trappers were a little corn corny. the trappers

Frank: like took me. Did they remind you of pirates from the hook? I, where are you going with this?

t, I was like, oh yeah, they [:

Frank: just, well, like Shme, I thought that

scott: was the first, as soon as you put Bob Oskins in that context hook.

Yeah, exactly like that.

Frank: Okay. I can see that now, but I'm not gonna knock it for that. Well, after

scott: all of that, I was like, oh no, is this gonna turn into a predator movie? like, I want a serious alien. Vibe predator, movie mm-hmm and I feel like they all, even the first one with fucking Schwartzenegger and Carl weathers, like get high five, Billy

Frank: Oh, your son of

scott: a bitch. There were three wrestlers in that fucking movie. So yeah. Was Billy a wrestler? No, uh, Jesse Ventura, Jesse Ventura. Is it Carl weathers? A we wrestler.

Frank: Was he

scott: in wrestling? Oh, I don't know. Now, now that you say that, and Arnold was a bodybuilder, I just remember that Carl weathers did an SNL commercial mm-hmm like in a commercial on SNL.

r governor at the same time. [:

Frank: well, I mean, Carl weathers, uh, predator with Arnold and Rocky with Sylvester, you know, because there was always that Arnold Sylvester thing

scott: going on, he might be right. He might not have been a wrestler. I, I might have just stuck him in there. You

know,

Frank: I'm so sorry. I, I plan because I don't know if. Okay.

Jesse Ventura. I think he did do wrestling, right? Oh, he was a wrestling. Yeah. A hundred percent. Jesse, the body Ventura. Yes. Okay. Yes. Duh, that was

scott: his name, name. I didn't

Frank: know that pretty. It came out real fast. Jesse, the body Ventura. Yeah. I feel, I feel like, like, I know

scott: that to anyone though. Like you could be like skit the body Earl, Rick

Frank: Wow. um, I thought you meant Billy, the, the guy who played Billy, I saw him in another like eighties, nineties act

d Billy and I just realized. [:

Frank: well, no. Um, no, but I mean, the first one's always just gonna have that mystique around it, you know, it's gonna be the original.

It was well,

scott: when I was a kid that was mind

Frank: blowing HBO. God, I can't tell you how many times I watched that opening HBO sequence before that movie played, like the eighties, one with all the, the lights that

scott: shoot up. Do you ever kind of wish they'd. The infrared thing or make it cooler

Frank: his vision. Yeah.

Have you seen the newest one? The, the

scott: predator? Yeah, I, I did. I,

Frank: I feel as if it was slightly enhanced there wasn't it.

scott: I think that that movie was better than Terminator Genesis, but also every only kind

Frank: of everything is better than Terminator. , let's just, let's get serious for a minute. You, if we ever have a list of movies that should not have been made.

Terminator. Do you know what

scott: alien versus predator would be on that list to me though? Do you know who's in Terminator Genesis? Yes. I know who's in Terminator Genesis.

Frank: [:

scott: go. Go ahead. Did you forget? No, ,

Frank: she's a breaker of chains.

scott: Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

Frank: I know. I didn't know that. I did not know that like, while you were watching it, you didn't know while I was watching

scott: it.

I didn't know. Oh, you were like, where's. Her hair isn't white. Once I

Frank: saw that, that was her. I was like, oh fuck. That was her. Yeah. Not very good at, Hey man, I'm telling you like a month ago I found out that was her in Terminator Genesis. no shit. Yes. I, I shit. You not like a fucking month ago or less. I found out that that was her.

scott: Oh my God. But the predator great cast, but silly. Silly as fuck. Yeah.

Frank: Um, but I think they knew

scott: it was, well, it was the same thing with, I really liked predators. Yeah. But it was that moment. Lawrence Fishburn showed up. I was like, oh, this fucking predator movie. I forgot.

Frank: So yeah. What it goes [:

scott: man to

Well, it felt so serious. And then. It got kind of corny and the same thing happened with this one, but I didn't mind it as much, cuz I was like, oh you did that. So you could do this killing field fucking scene with a high body

Frank: count. Well, I feel as through almost all of the previous predator movies, they understand at some point this is what they do.

They hunt and in predators I think is where they emphasize it the most, you know, they look for the best of the best to. But throughout all of them, we kind of understand that they've done this over the course of time, a very long time. So the fact that we go back approximately 300 years for this story, and you go to a Comanche tribe, dude, it was so on the ball.

I didn't even see that coming once I saw the ad I, what is this? And then my mind

scott: shoved that I was. That makes perfect sense because that's what they're doing. It's a great direction. Yeah. It's the same thing she's doing in

Frank: this movie for some of the prequels that have come out lately and where they go with the storyline.

, motherfuckers, you're just [:

scott: Trachtenberg, excellent track record now. Because 10 Cloverfield lane and then this, those are his only movies. Oh, are you serious? Yeah. You didn't know that? No, I had no idea.

Yeah. He directed some episodes of the boys. Okay. And, uh, he's done TV and stuff like that. No, this is good. But his only two movies are this in 10 Cloverfield lane. Mm-hmm when I love 10 Cloverfield lane. Just picture if Walter from the big Lebowski was actually who that was and it's an even better.

Frank: Um, 10 Cloverfield lane.

I feel like I've only seen it once, which is you should watch it again. I should, but that's it. Isn't never on anything streaming. I know it's crazy. Somebody

scott: stream that. Well, didn't Netflix do the third Cloverfield universe movie. Didn't they pay for that and stuff. Oh,

Frank: the, ah, shit. I can't remember. I watched it it's like on the ship

scott: with the dimensional before you find out why it happened.

Yeah. Or how it happened, something like

that direct, he did a great [:

scott: Well, it was supposed to all be in Comanche originally. And I guess it was a studio thing where they were like, eh, Hulu

Frank: has the option to.

scott: It in a Comanche dub. Yes. Which is cool. They did it. Yeah, they did do it. Fair. Fair enough. Fair enough. They did

Frank: it. Fair enough. A lot of these knockoff horror movies from Japan don't do anything like that. Yeah. But

scott: she's she was in ban two episodes of ban Chi. Oh, no shit. Uh she's in every episode of Legion, I'm pretty sure.

Okay. The with, uh, Dan Legion. I know I haven't

Frank: had

scott: a chance to watch that either. Dan Stevens, Dan Stevens and Ari Plaza. Okay. The X-Men

Frank: TV show. Shit, man. You're making me feel like I'm so far behind again. Aw, you are.

scott: You're very far behind.

rs in this movie, I would've [:

Frank: Well, and they, they tied into the parallels of what's going on in the tribe, you know, the whole yeah.

Hunt for leadership. Yeah. Hunt for superiority. Damn. I sounded country as hell. And I said,

scott: superiority. Yeah. You shouldn't say it like that superiority.

Frank: I think it's cuz I'm half congested still. It just shut down one side

scott: of the nasal cat you know, a friend of mine did say that the CGI animals ruined it for him.

But honestly I saw Nope, the day after he told me that Uhhuh and I was like, He liked. Nope, though. and that monkey is,

Frank: see, I understand that statement though. Sometimes you're watching a movie and no matter what you're feeling, you're like, oh, like that's a really good bear.

scott: I feel like that's the, the valley we're in now.

That's how deep the valley goes. You're not gonna get a better bear than that.

Frank: Oh, I can get you a bear. I can get you a bear by 4:00 PM. Okay.

scott: But could they, they can't get a bear to do.

uh, lots of Easter eggs, uh, [:

You

scott: probably noticed all of them and I didn't, uh,

Frank: one of my favorite ones, uh, you know, I think it's, the brother says if it bleeds, we can kill it. I, I did catch that one. You caught that one? Yeah. Yeah. Um, the other one that I caught right away was the pistol. I didn't catch that the pistol. Oh, because at the end.

scott: It's predator two, right? Predator two. When Danny Glover gets on the ship. Yeah. Uh, spoiler

ert, predator two . Yeah, but:

scott: 1990, Danny Glover gets on the ship.

Frank: Um, Danny Glover beats

scott: one. Now you're listening to an episode about the . Yeah. Maybe that was made 30 years later. Yeah.

Frank: The, the predators, you know, the elder predators, they give him this prize for his victory and it's this old pistol it's like super old.

I don't even know if Pistol's the correct term. The damn thing's so old. So how

scott: did they. How'd they get the pistol cause she brought the pistol back to the tribe. Oh, okay.

Frank: So spoiler alert. The end of the credits. So it shows the ships coming back insinuating.

scott: You don't need to give spoiler alerts. If you're listening to this, we're fucking talking about this.

just what we're doing here. [:

Frank: of the movie, the, at the credits, there's some illustrations that kind of give you a recap. And then it ends with the final scene, the bloody head predator, head on the ground, and then there's spaceships coming from the sky.

And to me that tells you, this is going to be the ongoing battle. Now, like the predators are going to go there to test their skills. I feel as if down the line in this story, there was more conflict in one way or another somebody died that came back to the predators as their prize. Ah,

scott: a thinker. I like it.

I love these predator movies. That's good. I do need to rewatch some of the old. See,

Frank: I watch 'em every chance I get it's

scott: been a time. I, I wanna say, well, the last one I watched was the predator mm-hmm and there was some point when I was watching that movie where I was like, Jesus Christ. When are they gonna make a real predator movie?

but then I go back and watch the old predator movies. And I'm like, I MIS remember.

d it. Yeah. Even AVP Requiem [:

scott: I, I felt offended because I was like, uh, aliens are harder to kill than that. and I'm a fucking expert I read the fucking, like the books that were like cannon that they sold the grocery store.

Yeah. About characters that never come up in an alien movie when I was a kid. Fuck that shit , um, just gunning down fields of aliens. Bullshit.

Frank: Another thing that I could appreciate about the movie was, uh, the predator's weapons. I like the armor too. Even the predator's weapons and equipment was more primitive than what you see in the more modern movies.

I liked that a lot, you know, go back to Arnold in the first one, the lasers. They hone in and then, boom, it's like a plasma charge. They hone in in this one. What is it shooting? Uh, like Wolverine's bone Spears at him. Did you notice they were made out of like this really coarse bone looking material? No,

scott: I didn't.

Were

h? When I saw it, unless I'm [:

scott: was out there like the, in fucking red, dead redemption, making his bullet shave, shave, shave, chop, shave, shave.

Yeah.

Frank: Um, there was that there was even his little arm band. Those have changed in all the movies, but his little forearm guard was something different. And what got me was the look of the predator himself. Yeah. His face, you know how he

scott: was a figure. Oh, he looked a little less evolved. Well,

Frank: what I don't understand there.

We were only introduced to a predator that looks like that in the predator, because there was the bounty hunter predator. Oh yeah. You're bigger, stronger. He had a different look. Yeah. He had different tools. This predator to me resembled that predator. That's a cool little twist to throw in as well, because we didn't even meet that predator until the most recent movie before this one.

scott: Wow. That's a nerd stuff. I don't even, I didn't even can't even wrap my head.

Frank: The predator movies or just comfort movies to me, I put them on the for bed. I've watched them. I feel like I understand the universe.

o you wanna watch a predator [:

Everybody has always been like what I even

Frank: said. What, when

scott: you said that I fucking loved predator too, because it felt like, uh, when I was a kid, it was very comforting in the lethal weapon kind of way. Yeah. You know, I loved lethal weapon movies when I was a kid, so, oh. I just, Danny Glover being in it and like bill Paxton.

And, um, what's her name from

Frank: running man?

scott: Yeah, that's kind of the same as like sometimes when I'm like, I wanna watch a Friday, the 13th movie, sometimes the one I go for is Jason takes Manhattan. Even though it's fucking

Frank: terrible. So that one came on Cinemax and, or HBO lot, our and our youth. I mean, that's why I've seen that one.

So many times in my youth,

scott: that scene where he punches the guy's head off is just burned into the frame. and I laughed so hard when I was, you really hung onto that one, laugh about it every time. So

Frank: good. Um, I did one that one time I sent you the little split picture I made. Yeah. That same guy was in predator and predator too.

uy, Which is, how can you do [:

scott: but, but it was in there just like, let's just go with what we know.

The one who

Frank: Arnold . He jumps in the truck that Arnold launches into the little cafeteria in the first predator. He's the one who's like doing fat rails shooting at cops in the second. Before he, he gets killed by the predator. That's crazy. It's the same guy. He's got long black hair. He's got a very distinct face.

But if you look closely, the guy who gets pushed, you know, he lifts the truck up. Yeah. He puts the C4 charge or whatever it is in the back, lifts it up, a guy jumps in and tries to stop it. And he is like, ah, then it blows up. So why the fuck did you even jump in there? That's the same guy wearing, I believe it's a black leather vest.

In predator too. And he's the one who holds up to the very end. And then he's one of the ones that gets snatched or killed or whatever, by the predator in the top of the high, the, the building. I know, man, you picked a good one. I swear. I can dig into this shit. Yeah.

scott: you [:

I like that. We're two different kinds of dork. I, I do. It makes it good. Because I don't get that deep with stuff like that. More into like the, the alien lore and all that, you know, I was comparing the giant guy and Prometheus to the immediately, when I came over from the theater, I was like, we're watching the first one again.

the

Frank: engineer. Yeah.

scott: I was like, does he look the same?

Frank: But that's that shit though. You just

scott: have to know, right? I like that shit with the gun that you're talking about, cuz that is a sweet spot for me in filmmaking. It's why I like the thing prequel that entire fucking movie was built around the nerdy. I watched one scene of this movie. As they walk through the other base and he made all those things happen.

The acts in the door, everything, this

Frank: is 30 years later, that that gun is explained in a well done movie. This

scott: was really good. As far as reviews go top tier for me, this was a really good streaming

Frank: straight. This was, [:

scott: a fan base, you know, I, over the years, I've tried to cancel Hulu so many times and I always come back.

Yeah, no, this was a good surprise. And

Frank: I've been, why do I even have this, you know? Cause we've talked about the quality of those Netflix originals lately.

scott: Well Hulu's regular movie cash. Uhhuh sucks just in general Palm Springs, right? Wasn't that an original. Yeah, but that's the stuff they make. It's their, their library is not very good.

Yeah. It's just, you find some stuff in there, but it's like a bad video. Yeah, this,

Frank: uh, sci-fi thriller.

scott: This was great. As far as an original, well done, pleasantly

Frank: surprised. Uh, I was hoping they would do something great. I loved it. I loved every minute of it.

scott: So, which is this, as far as your favorite predator movies?

I would

Frank: put it probably, it would be a two or three second or third mm-hmm yeah. Yeah. The OG will always be number

scott: one. What comes right? is it predator

Frank: too? See, so yeah, yeah, yeah. It's

scott: predator to, yeah, you can't discount it. Cuz of nostalgia. I like predator too. You know, I

Frank: actually [:

scott: Uh, I would say I liked AVP Requiem more than I liked the predator. Yeah. Okay.

Frank: Wait the okay. Re wheel. Sorry. You scared me for a second

scott: wheel. The predator. Yeah. Okay. No, not more than predators. I would say predators falls top three. Yeah. Even with its silliness,

Frank: let's just say the

scott: AVPs are at the bottom. I was sort of just ashamed of Florence Fishburn, cuz I like Lawrence Fishburn you know, and I was like,

Frank: this is weird.

I, you know, he's not a, he'll go get a check.

scott: Well, no offense. It was also just a weird story choice. Yeah. To be like there's a guy still here and look well shouldn't they be hunting him cuz he's fucking hard to catch. Yeah. You know, . Well, you gonna bring more people before you finish your last lot.

Frank: I know.

Yeah, no, I mean, solid story. Uh, great throwbacks.

park up, off, uh, up north. [:

Frank: yes they did. Uh, was it McKinney? Is it McKinney falls or McKinney? Roughs? I always get those two mixed up.

Yeah. Either McKinney falls or it might have been McKinney roughs, the place they shot leftovers leftovers was shot there. And what I found out, you know, behind the. Was, um, no, I was a bunch of the other extras had worked on that. Well, not for that. They worked with the crew that worked on that. And while they were there shooting extras and people on set were having heatstroke.

Oh yeah.

scott: I don't doubt it. I don't doubt at all. but yeah, I, I wanna watch this movie again, like really pay attention to it. And I put it on the background once already, just to, yeah, because I was like, I mean, I do that again. Well, I was

Frank: still coming out of the cold and so I was on the couch, locked. I'm weird about lights on TV screens.

thing in the way I was like, [:

I'm not watching prey with an orange

scott: orb. Not gonna do it. No, I did this at like one in the morning and uh, no,

Frank: I had my ritual for this one. That my rituals on for this one,

scott: no interruptions. I fucking dug it though. It was a good. Uh, no. Well done Hulu. These people should be in more stuff. What's that other show?

Uh, reservation dogs. Yes. They're talking about T TJ points.

Frank: I need, I wanna watch that. I keep seeing

scott: started it and I was like, oh, I kind of like this bill

Frank: bird's in it. I've seen so many clips that are hilarious. I need to check it. I need to check that out too. Yeah,

scott: I'd be into that too. But yeah, this, this was good, but we'll be back next week with, uh, the counselor, which we already recorded.

We just kind of wanted to be able. Talk about this stuff with each other and yeah, this is the time we do it. And, you know, slow down my workload to where cuz it's just me. Mm-hmm you know, so every now and then you're gonna get a 20 minute episode, but we're gonna do ones where we talk about new trailers.

he ideas for longer episodes [:
